Georgia Temporary License Plates from 1995 to 2024
From 1995 to 2024, Georgia had two types of temporary license plates in use at the same time. One was for export, while the other was for vehicles awaiting their permanent registration plate. The license plates used for vehicles awaiting their permanent license plate featured red characters on a white background, divided into two blocks. The first began with the letter G, while the second consisted of a four-digit serial number. The current export license plates were made from a paper-like material and consisted of four numbers, a red stripe showing the year of validity at the top and, optionally, the month at the bottom, followed by two serial letters starting from AA. Until the introduction of the temporary license plates with red characters on a white background, these "export" plates were valid as temporary plates for both purposes.
