Este cambio consistir\u00e1 en\u00a0<!--more--> la introducci\u00f3n de un nuevo formato de tipo AA-01-AA, dejando atr\u00e1s el actual tipo 00-AA-00, que se mantiene en uso desde el a\u00f1o 2005. Con el nuevo formato se conseguir\u00e1 adem\u00e1s, el aumento de matriculaciones dentro del sistema portugu\u00e9s, alcanzando las 15.870.000 millones de matriculas disponibles.
